This show is about the connections we have to objects, people, places, pets etc. and the relationships and attachments we develop. Some pieces are based on an association with a word. Comes see what our Associate Members have been up to.
Standing beneath creaking pines on a foggy day, surrounded by the gnarled masses of trees many hundreds of years old, few have found our natural setting here in coastal British Columbia an easy subject in our art making. This class will bring both basic and experimental techniques of relief printmaking to bear on this timeless subject. Students will learn the foundational steps of relief printmaking - from transferring a drawing, cutting a plate, and printing in a variety of ways. Much of the class will be spent exploring experimental techniques in blending color on plates, alternative mediums and materials, and generally pushing the boundaries and expectations of relief printmaking works and how it looks. Basic editioning traditions will be discussed, and at the end of the day each participant will take home a small edition of signed and numbered prints. Suitable for all ages and skill levels. Weather permitting, we will spend time sketching outside, so hard backed sketchbooks would be a good idea. Students may also bring source material if they choose.
As we are all aware, Victoria is a huge tourist town! Our goal is to provide the opportunity to our visitors to purchase some locally made art instead of the imported goods they find elsewhere in the city. This show is designed to provide smaller pieces at smaller price-points appropriate for travelers to pack up and take with them or for locals who just want to treat themselves to a small locally made treasure. We welcome you to capture the beauty of our fair city, its occupants, natural surroundings and experiences.
